Abstract

Preliminary studies show that the family Pinnidae is represented on the Pakistan coast by several species. However the present paper deals with three species in two genera, one species Pinna muricata is being recorded for the first time from Pakistan. The species are briefly described, their colour photographs are also included.
The samples for the present study were obtained from the intertidal zones of Manora (24°47’N, 66°59’E), Buleji (24°50’N, 66°49’E), Sandspit (24°50’N, 66°56’E), and Ibrahim Hyderi (24°47’N, 67°09’E) of Karachi coast.
The classification given by Rosewater (1961) is adopted here.
